This morning I woke up to 50 degree weather. This girl is over-the-moon happy. I know I’ve been mentioning the weather a lot, but I don’t think you truly recognize the significance of great weather until you no longer have it (just like everything else in life, right?).
Anyways..
Due to health reasons/trying to keep myself accountable for eating more real, whole, raw foods, I am committing to a Paleo-style diet until Thanksgiving. For me, this basically means giving up refined sugar or flour, dairy, and grains. Honestly, I’m not big on sugary foods, cheese, milk, or bread. Plus, the Paleo diet allows dark cocoa/chocolate, wine and apple ciders, fruit, and so much more of my favorite foods! I’d say I’m off to a good start.
For those of you thinking, “How can you give up all those foods?!” I’ll share some simple Paleo swaps:
Instead of flour, try:
Almond flour
Coconut flour
Tapioca flour
Cassava flour
Instead of refined sugar, try:
Honey, raw
Coconut sugar
Stevia extract
Instead of dairy, try:
Almond milk, unsweetened
Coconut milk, unsweetened
Coconut milk yogurt
Instead of grains, try:
Sweet potatoes
Fruit
This weekend, when I decided to give this whole Paleo deal a try, my mind immediately started brainstorming recipes. This Roasted Cinnamon Coconut Trail Mix was the first to come to mind. I’ve been snacking on it every day since.
