There’s no denying the hype around CBD oil these days. And, to be honest, I dragged my feet to get behind this “holistic trend.” I didn’t want to jump on the bandwagon just to try the newest and coolest thing. However, after doing further research and personally experiencing the benefits of CBD oil, I have to admit: I’m a big fan. CBD oil supports the body on a foundational level and encourages an appropriate stress response- which, in my opinion, we can all use a little help with. The list of CBD oil benefits run far and wide, so let’s dive in.
I first started with CBD oil earlier this year. After several months of fighting the sudden onset of dyshidrotic eczema on my hands, I tried everything. Eventually, I decided to tackle heavy metal toxicity with TRS (a spray to reduce heavy metal toxicity), in the hopes heavy metals were triggering the eczema. On a foundational level, I knew my body needed extra support to properly detox and heal. That’s when I turned to CBD oil. And, boy, am I glad I did!
During this same season, while doing a heavy metal detox, Blake and I bought our first home and were quickly renovating it. As a result of excitement and stress, I wasn’t sleeping well (if, at all). Between stress, lack of sleep, heavy metal toxicity, and more, I was convinced I could greatly benefits from the support of CBD.
What is CBD oil?
First thing first, what is CBD? CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is the main bioactive compound in the hemp plant and one of many phytocannabinoids produced by cannabis sativa L. CBD oil is created from hemp plants, specifically the flowers and leaves. But, no, it does not have the same effect as marijuana. Unlike marijuana, CBD is virtually free of THC (less than 0.3%), so you should never “get high” off CBD oil. However, take note: CBD consumption could result in a positive drug test.
CBD oil acts on the Endocannabinoid system (ECS) by regulating the immune system, HPA-axis, and more. This is why consuming CBD often results in a more relaxed, anxiety-free state of mind and body.
How CBD Oil Works
CBD interacts with our (ECS), which is primarily responsible for maintaining homeostasis (or balance) in the body. This is why I believe CBD helps support the body’s stress response on a foundational level. CBD oil doesn’t simply treat symptoms. It encourages the body to manage stress appropriately. That being said, in addition to the use of CBD products, it’s important to understand what is causing stress in your body and why.
Stress in the body can be caused by various internal and external sources, including: excess exercise, emotional burdens, injury, sickness/infection, sugar consumption, food sensitivities, heavy metal exposure, etc. The amount of stress our body is exposed to at a given time is called the “total body burden” (TBB). When TBB is high, so is physiological stress, whether you realize it or not.
Health Benefits of CBD Oil
Scientists have recently discovered that our ECS expands further that once expected. In fact, this impactful bodily system affects the whole body: skin, immunity, heart, eyes, muscles, gastrointestinal tract, etc. There are Endocannabinoid receptors located throughout the whole body. No wonder CBD oil is all the rage!
Personally, within a few days to weeks, I experienced multiple health benefits from consistent CBD oil consumption, like better quality sleep, reduced anxiety, and improved eczema. Although I was seeking sleep and detox support, CBD oil is known to improve various other stress-related symptoms, including:
- Anxiety + depression
- Insomnia
- Aches + pains
- Poor immune function
- Hormonal imbalances
- Brain fog and fatigue
