Why I Chose Nutritional Therapy

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?

I grew up in a very health-conscious household, so nutrition has been a priority for as long as I can remember. More so, it has served as a creative outlet and stress reliever for me. However, despite a passion for food, nutrition, and all things health, I spent years experiencing my own “mystery” health struggles (and still do). As a result, my definition of “health” has evolved and my priorities have shifted.

The Quick Rundown

As a teenager, you would find me on the elliptical for hours on end, followed by a chicken breast and broccoli dinner. At that point in my life, I would have given my left arm to be “skinny” (even though I already was). After several years, my health journey turned into a quest to be strong. As a Certified Personal Trainer, I spent most of my days at the gym. Fitness became my life. I lived and breathed barbells and protein shakes. Predictably, it did not take long for me to reach a state of complete burn out. My desire to look “toned” and gain strength quickly morphed into a craving for balance and moderation. It was then that I said goodbye to counting macros and rigid workouts. Undoubtedly, these evolving seasons of “health” in my own life lead me to where I am now.

Today, I’m on a continuous and changing journey, to pursue a wholesome, nourished, and healthy body.

The Deep Dive

Despite my previous pursuits of “health” or even my role as a Certified Personal Trainer, I never felt good. I spent countless hours and dollars at doctor visits only to be told nothing was wrong with me. But I knew something was off. I knew something was missing. And, I certainly knew I wasn’t crazy. After many years, I decided to take my health into my own hands. I suffered from various symptoms, like hormonal acne, bloating and gas, chronic fatigue, relentless brain fog, very irregular periods, frequent sicknesses, painful mouth ulcers, recurring yeast infections, etc. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. Maybe you can relate. Eventually, I turned to food for healing, which is something I should have done years earlier.

Fundamentally, food serves as a God-given source of fuel and nourishment- a satisfying and delicious one at that. I quickly discovered that food has the power to heal or harm our bodies. And, truthfully, the choice is ours. While I still struggle from various physical symptoms today, my body has progressed leaps and bounds. My journey has allowed me to truly understand and appreciate the undeniable power of food.

For all these reasons, I decided to pursue a career in Functional Nutritional Therapy. Having experienced the healing powers of whole, nutrient-dense foods, I just can’t keep it a secret to myself. If I’m being honest, there are moments I want to scream it from the mountain tops. Because natural, wholesome, and nourishing foods are God-given tools that can transform our lives- physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I have been exactly where you are. Yet, I have experienced incredible healing, too. Now, it’s your turn. I want to walk along side you as you experience incredible healing through the most fundamental protocol: food.
